Professional Development in a Christian School: Who, How, and Why

This paper was written as an assignment for a graduate class in education. Brian synthesizes the work of other authors and focuses on three aspects of professional development:

  1. WHO can lead in supporting teachers’ professional development. While individual teachers may be gifted for this work, Brian suggests that the best development is enabled by the administrator working with leaders among the teaching staff.
  2. HOW development can be conducted. Brian suggests development activities rooted in the community of teachers rather than isolated efforts.
  3. WHY the school should continue to develop. The charge of guiding students into patterns of practice and thought that honor God calls for our serious attention.
