That is a great idea, Jonas. It can work well in other subjects too as the need for a bit of accountability arises. Key to this idea is the point Jonas made on the teacher assigning buddies that are neither “best buddies” or antagonistic. Pairing stronger students with weaker ones often works well. The idea of both serving the consequence if both missed catching something skipped is also great.
I am presently using this kind of idea with another subject — carefully assigned pairing with stronger and weaker across the grades since it works for that subject and both receiving the same due (small) recognition — both negative and positive. It is working very well. They are the ones encouraging each other with words like, “Be careful!” I listen and smile. 🙂
