I noted Carolyn mentioned their school bought most of their dictionaries used through Abebooks. I was introduced to Abebooks last summer and was very pleased with what I was able to purchase through them — books not available through Amazon. More recently I have purchased a lot of used books for the library through Thriftbooks. Usually I can get them for a very good price and shipping is free when the order is over ten dollars. I aim for hard cover whenever available and purchasing only those in excellent or very good condition. What can we learn from your experiences?
BookFinder.com searches the major online booksellers including Amazon, Ebay, Alibris, Abebooks, and others. You can search by author, title, or ISBN, and it shows results for both new and used books sorted by price, shipping included. I’ve found it extremely useful, and have even found good deals on textbooks there. One drawback is that it probably can’t take into account discounts such as that free shipping deal from Thriftbooks (which I didn’t know about—thanks, Betty!).
