@carolynmartinDoes your school furnish all supplies (pencils, paper, crayons, glue, etc.) for the students or do you send out supply lists to each student before the school year starts? Or do students just bring what they think they may need? What are some of the supplies for various grades that you require? And what are some of the ones the school might wish to furnish?

@bettyyoderWe always hand out a supply list, available here. The first day I ask students to wait to unload their backpacks until we can go through the required supplies list (item by item) with the whole class (including checking that everything is marked); they pull out whatever item I request and then place it into the desk according to my instructions. In this way desk order/tidiness is addressed at the same time as checking that all the necessary items are present. Usually one or two of the new students’ mothers are a bit apprehensive of their child’s first day and welcome my invitation to stay for a couple hours. This is a real gift to me because they are a huge help as we, as a class, go through each item and make a list of any missing items. This works quite well for my age. There are a few items that I wish to buy myself to make sure they are what I know works best; these items parents then purchase from me on “enrollment day”. Here is the supply list we sent out this year:

@petergoertzenWe have a standard list of school supplies for each grade level. Every spring the teachers have a chance to make revisions to it. It’s then mailed to parents during the summer.
