History Of Nagasaki Christianity By Gary Kohls

This article by Gary Kohls tells some of the history of Christianity in Nagasaki. Christianity was illegal in Japan from 1600-1850, causing the church to go underground. After international pressure in the late 1800’s, Japanese Christians were allowed to worship openly. The largest concentration of Christians in Japan was in Nagasaki. As Mr. Kohls says, “What the Japanese Imperial government could not do in 250 years of persecution (destroy Japanese Christianity) American Christians did in nine seconds.” Included in this document is the article by George Zabelka “Blessing the Bombs.”
