In part 2 of a comparison of ESL and teaching the subjects, Daniel describes the ways teaching the subjects in a traditional classroom prepares, and does not prepare, teachers for ESL. Teaching English as a second language requires an understanding and enjoyment of language as a skill. Because ESL is usually a cross-cultural effort, teachers must be sensitive to the expectations and perceptions of their students.
