I completely understand the question! Since I love to read and deliberately look for ways to encourage that love in my students, I like to give books. I had hoped to give Rascal this year since we read Little Rascal (the shorter, but original version of Rascal), in reading class, but the price is higher than I expected. I aim to stay under $5.00 although it doesn’t always work that way. Pollyanna is under $4.00 and I will likely give that one to the girls, but am still looking for an excellent read for boys under $5.00.
Other years I gave each student one of the mini photo albums you can buy for $1.00 along with a number of photos from the year and then let them arrange their own album.
