How can you grow in understanding your subject area if all your time seems taken by lesson planning, grading, and teaching? Rather than overwhelm ourselves by trying to study a large quantity of material, says Melvin, we ought to strive for mastery of a few high-quality resources.

  • Good, solid advice from Melvin! His encouragement to pursue this deepening of knowledge in discussion with the school board (at least some forms of further education) is very appropriate. I do wonder how those of us without the discipline to get up early will manage to read in our parallel reading books–how can we build the needed discipline to get up early to do this?
